CAMP FACILITIES: We are located on 220 acres in the Malibu mountains. It is a nice rustic-type camp , with refurbished boys' side cabins as of 2014 and the girls' side on schedule for refurbishment within the next couple of years. We have an outdoor pool, basketball courts, ping pong tables, gaga court, sports field, ropes course (upper and lower elements) hiking trails, indoor dining hall, conference center, an area for outdoor camping and adventures and more. CAMP LEADERSHIP, CIT OR LIT OPPORTUNITIES:
TASC : Teen Age Service Camp
(entering 10th -11th grades)
TASC is geared toward developing leadership, through a group-oriented community project implemented by the campers, and through special programs. Throughout the session, TASCers experience pride and fulfillment as they enrich the Camp JCA Shalom campus. In addition, TASCers get to experience the best components of the general camp program along with a special out-of-camp overnight trip. For over 45 years, the TASC program has been one of our most popular teen programs.
TASC : California Kibbutz -
(entering 11th grades)
TASC Kibbutz is a new program created just for entering 11th graders. This program is an immersive three week program designed to be the ultimate Jewish camping and leadership experience. In TASC Kibbutz, we transport ourselves back a hundred years ago to feel what it was like for some of the pioneers who made their way to Israel. The "Kibbutzniks" will have to "create their own world" at camp. They will build their own living area, cook many of their own meals, and even help work the farm at camp! By creating a kibbutz at JCA, the Kibbutzniks will come together as a tightly knit community, grow closer to the land; learn about sustainability and organic farming; and gain knowledge of kibbutz life in Israel- all while having fun at camp! While the Kibbutzniks will spend the majority of time creating their kibbutz, they will still be connected to camp, spending sometime every day with the rest of the camp community, and still participating in many of camps offerings such as horseback riding and the ropes course. At the end of the program, the Kibbutzniks will leave with a sense of accomplishment, a set of friends for life, and a true finale of their last camp experience before becoming a Counselor-In-Training (CIT).
CIT: Counselor-In-Training
(entering grade 12)
These future leaders have a lasting effect on both the spirit and welfare of Camp JCA Shalom. Workshops in Jewish programming, child development and leadership training, along with observation, individual supervision and actual work with younger campers, helps the CIT explore the functioning and philosophy of camp, and develop his/her leadership abilities. This is an enriching and exciting experience as well as an important step towards future staff positions at camp. By the end of the summer, the CITs have the opportunity to become junior counselors during Session 3, and will receive a small stipend. Personal Interview required.
All Teen Leadership Programs:
- Require an additional application and interview prior to acceptance.
- Have a minimum and maximum number of participants.
- Have opportunities to gain community service hours.
YEAR-ROUND CAMP PROGRAMS: We hold fall and spring weekend camps and a week long winter camp. We have family weekends, Jewish holiday day-long programs. We work with synagogues, schools and organizations throughout the west customizing their school, nature and leadership programs. we serve as a community convener for collaborative programs in the Los Angeles area Jewish community.

CAMP LOCATION: Nestled on a historic and spacious 900 acre working horse and cattle ranch, Mountain Meadow offers a superb, natural environment unlike any summer camp environment in California. Unique in beauty and atmosphere, Mountain Meadow enriches the lives of all who visit.
We are located on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northeast California, 75 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada and the Reno-Tahoe Int’l Airport. The ranch property sits just on the timberline and encompasses over 900 acres. To our east lies the Great Basin Desert, and to the west we are bordered by richly forested mountains.
CAMP FACILITIES: Pool and Lagoon
Our Junior Olympic-size pool affords campers the opportunity to work on and improve swimming skills, soak up the sun, or just play! It’s also the site of one of our biggest color wars competitions of each session, the all-camp Aqua Fest.
The Lagoon is the most popular place in camp on a hot summer day, and many of our late afternoons are spent here as other activities in camp are winding down. Paddle boats & paddle boards, rope swing, high jump, trampoline – there’s so much to do! The lagoon is fed by a babbling brook just waiting to be explored, and which carries native brook and German brown trout, making the lagoon a great fishing spot as well.
Dining Hall
Our lodge style dining hall is the heart of camp and has a truly historic lodge-like feel. Food is served & buffet tables are set up inside at mealtimes, while campers eat under the canopy outside, affording everyone a view of the sprawling meadow and lagoon. Our all-camp dances take place here, and on those rare but wonderful occasions when we get an evening rainstorm, we have someplace dry to gather for some indoor games, too!
Cabins
Each cabin at Mountain Meadow Ranch is unique in style, but every cabin has electricity, wall-to-wall carpeting, and is complete with its own bathroom and shower facilities. Many have a front deck that overlooks the central meadow, a great place to catch up with their cabin mates and enjoy the view. Campers sleep in their own twin-sized cozy wooden bunk beds with bedding or sleeping bags, all clothes and belongings are kept in trunks or luggage that slide under or to the side of their bunks. There are shelves and countertop space in the bathrooms. Laundry service is offered once a week for all campers and staff. It is priority that our cabins be clean, safe and comfortable. Cabin groups are separated according to age and gender.

CAMP LOCATION:
Situated one hour northeast of Sacramento in Nevada County’s lush pine forest, Camp Augusta gives you the feeling of comfort. Our 65-foot waterfall, Lake Vera, rustic beauty and blue sky will create an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Dedicated staff provide everything necessary for your best experience. Camp Augusta covers 80 acres in the Sierra Nevada foothills, just outside the town of Nevada City. Each year, thousands of children, youth and family members enjoy Camp Augusta's rustic setting in the wooded lands of Lake Vera's western shores. Camp Augusta's four core programs are uniquely designed for summer youth campers, wilderness trips, elementary school children, and family groups.
CAMP FACILITIES: Our lodge, rebuilt in 2000, is a 1,400 square foot log structure. It features a great fireplace, a 1,000 square foot open-air deck, and a feeling of rustic nostalgia that will make your wedding, conference, seminar, retreat, or picnic unforgettable.
Facilities also include: amphitheater, 18 open-air cabins (holds 120 people), yurt, 2 modern cabins, fully-equipped kitchen, outdoor dining area, 3 campfire rings, large activity field, lake, Rock Creek, waterfalls, and 80 acres.

This program is called the Progressive Adult Cardiac Experience (PACE). This program is aimed at developing the practical and leadership skills that young adults with heart disease will need as they transition into their adult lives. This program often involves a weekend of camping, teambuilding games and workshops.

Cabins/teepees have six bunk beds and are solid wood structures with canvas flaps covering the windows and the door. Each tribe has a set of brand new bathrooms with individual restrooms and showers.

It is a job readiness program in which teens participate in various workshops (i.e., resume writing), as well as shadow different jobs at Camp. CAMP LOCATION: We operate out of two beautiful locations in the Santa Cruz Mountains. In July we are hosted by Camp MayMac in the lovely town of Felton, CA and in August & December we are hosted by the marvelous Camp Mt.Cross which is also our home base. These camp locations are about 90 minutes south of San Francisco and 45 minutes from San Jose.
CAMP FACILITIES: We have 16 modern cabins with two bathrooms in each, outdoor pool, dining hall, first class auditorium, basketball and volleyball courts, a gorgeous amphitheatre, several indoor teaching spaces, a fully equipped infirmary, wonderful kitchen staff who provide vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free options in addition to meals with meat.
CAMP LEADERSHIP, CIT OR LIT OPPORTUNITIES: Our counselors are required to complete one session as a Counselor In Training before we offer them a position. CITs will shadow an established counselor as well as have a daily check in meeting with the directors. Before the start of camp they are also trained in conflict mediation, and required to become CPR/ First Aid certified at our Staff Meeting.
YEAR-ROUND CAMP PROGRAMS: We hold several events throughout the year.
December 27th-January 2nd: Winter Film Camp. This is an intensive filmmaking session for all levels of experience.
January: BroadwayCon. This is a trip to New York for the Broadway Convention the last weekend in January where we see 4 broadway shows and have Master Classes with actors currently on Broadway.
March: Annual Saturday Morning Film Festival where we screen the films made at the Winter Film Camp in a real movie theater in the bay area.
April: Weekend Workshop with Casting Directors, Broadway Stars, or other amazing guests!
May: Cannes International Film Festival in France. Since 2016 we have taken groups of students to France for the Cannes International Film Festival with films we have made at the Winter Film Camp.
July-August: Summer Camp Programs
September/ October/ November: Weekend Workshop Series with different guests.

The school library has a collection of 90,000 books that allow students to access it at anytime. Wifi Internet is available throughout every corner of the campus. Sport field occupies a 9,600 square meters area, including outdoor lighted basketball courts, soccer field, tennis courts, rock climbing, etc. It also has an indoor gym of 700 square meters. CAMP LOCATION: St. Dorothy’s Rest, an Episcopal camp and retreat facility, is nestled in the dense Redwoods of Camp Meeker, just outside of Occidental, California, in Sonoma County, about 90 minutes Northwest of San Francisco.
CAMP FACILITIES: This site offers indoor dormitory sleeping in bunks with mattresses provided. Campers are grouped together by age and supervised by their counseling staff. The beautiful setting also allows for swimming, access to the Russian River, outdoor basketball court, a play area, a cozy main house lodge, a recreation and gaming room, an outdoor campfire circle, cozy places to sit and share, a crafts shack, and a wonderful Redwood chapel.

CAMP LOCATION: Situated in the Santa Rosa hills, about an hour north of San Francisco, CA, Camp Newman provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable camp experience. With over 500 acres of land, great sports and arts facilities, a pool, an amphitheater, a sustainable farm and more, there are plentiful indoor and outdoor space for campers to learn, live and explore all summer. Miles away from the city glare, the star gazing is spectacular. And all campus buildings are within a few minutes’ walk of each other, creating an environment that is both safe and accessible for children of all ages.
CAMP FACILITIES: Campers live with their counselors in one of several villages grouped by age and gender. CAMP COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Brief Description: Camp counselors at Pali Adventures are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of campers. They supervise campers in a cabin setting, at mealtimes, and during activities. Counselors are in charge of facilitating activities throughout the day. Counselors work as a team to ensure all campers have a fun and memorable experience at camp. Counselors report directly to their Specialty Director and Group Leader.
QUALIFICATIONS
Exhibit characteristics of responsibility, dependability, leadership, patience, punctuality, hard work, sense of humor, self-control, integrity, common sense, good judgment and a positive enthusiastic attitude.
Complete the staff application and interview process.
Attend staff training (May 30 – June 12) and all in-service trainings.
Must have completed high school and be a minimum 18 years of age or older as of 5/30/20.
Desire and ability to work with children.
Other duties as assigned
Staff members are entrusted with the care and safety of young children in a rustic setting replete with natural and man-made dangers. All staff members must have the ability to respond immediately to an emergency. Any staff member with a disability that may affect the Staff Member’s ability to physically perform these requirements should immediately inform the Human Resources Department to determine possible reasonable accommodations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
• Serve the campers as a positive role model.
• Camp staff members will actively supervise campers both in assigned cabin groups (typically 10 campers and 2 counselors) and at assigned specialty, elective, evening and weekend activity programs.
• All campers should feel comfortable, safe and included.
• Learn the likes and dislikes of each camper in your care by showing genuine interest.
• Recognize and respond to the opportunities for problem solving in the group.
• The counselor is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of each camper within their cabin group and with whom they come into contact. E.g. drinking water, daily showers, teeth brushing, active supervision during rest/ down time, application of sunscreen and lip balm, appropriate attire for the activity they will be attending, etc.
• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• The staff member must never leave campers unsupervised.
• Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers and staff.
• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
• Know where your campers are at all times.
• The staff member must never leave campers unsupervised.
Other Job functions
On a rotating basis, all staff members will be scheduled to assist with the serving of meals
The staff member may be required to transport campers in camp vehicles in a safe acceptable manner, obeying all posted safety regulations.

CAMP LEADERSHIP, CIT OR LIT OPPORTUNITIES: We offer our Counselor-in-Leadership (CILT) & Junior Counselor (JC) programs where 7th - 10th graders are given the opportunity to build a variety of leadership skills while working directly with a mentor counselor. CILTs and JCs set and work towards goals with their mentor during their 1-week session, which often include hands-on practice with:
- Learning to work with kids in a camp setting, such as redirecting behavior, engaging them in conversation and encouraging participation
- Communication with adults and peers in a professional manner
- Collaboration as a CILT/JC team, planning and executing camp programs such as skits, assemblies and activities
- Perseverance and flexibility when things don’t go as planned
CILTs are campers entering 7th - 8th grades. Junior Counselors are campers entering 9th-10th grades and take-on added responsibility appropriate to their interests and skill level. To ensure our high standards for this program, space is limited to 12 spots per camp location per week.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: All of our Camps are suited for special needs children. We currently have children on the spectrum as well as CF, ADD, ADHD and other children with special needs attend. Many times they come with a facilitator which is welcomed as long as they have a FPCC and proper ID.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our camps are indoors and utilizes the space in order to rotate games and activities for the younger group and the older kids group. 40 minutes on and 15 minutes rest is the typical rotation time but down time and up time is adjusted based on activity levels of the participants and instructors.
CAMP LEADERSHIP, CIT OR LIT OPPORTUNITIES: We welcome C.I.T.'s (Counselors in Training) 14-15 year olds to join us in Camp to facilitate our Senior instructors. This is an unpaid position but one to learn how to facilitate, lead and care for children in this sports camp setting.
